The company was founded in 1912 under the name “Deutsche Werkstätten für Wohnkunst”. The founders – Arthur Schubert from Dresden, Moritz Langenbach from Frankfurt, Ernst Lewent from Berlin and the owners of eight other furniture stores – are committed to promoting good taste. A thoroughly visionary approach, it is about rigorously ridding the designs of the ballast of the prevailing historicism – and this already seven years before the world-famous Bauhaus is founded with a similar objective. Due to these very similar design philosophies, WK furniture and Bauhaus designs can be combined harmoniously.
