Although George Nelson originally had no experience in designing furniture, he was selected by the chairman of Herman Miller to be the next Director of Design. Nelson was selected for his insights on how to make furniture useful and innovative. During his tenure at Herman Miller, George Nelson worked with Isamu Naguchi, Ray and Charles Eames, and Harry Bertoia.
